Electricity Bill Name Transfer

The transfer of electricity meter is important during sale of property, transfer of ownership, transfer to legal heir in case of death of property owner or transfer for other reasons. For the owners who have not transferred the name in your electricity bill, following are list of documents and procedure for transferring electricity meter.

Eligibility

Those who are in process of sale of property, transfer of ownership, transfer to legal heir in case of death of property owner or transfer for other reasons are eligible.

Instructions

1. Get an application form for transfer of electricity meter from your nearest Electricity Board office. Note down the serial number of your Electricity meter and current electricity meter reading while filling the application. Also mention the RR number, address where meter is installed, name and address of old and new owner and the reason for the transfer.
2. You need to enclose the last paid electricity bill along with others documents for transfer of electricity meter. Ensure that you paid your current electricity bill before you apply for the same.
3. Enclose a copy of latest property tax paid receipt.
4. Enclose a copy of sales deed along with your application for transfer of Electricity Meter. For property owners whose documents relating to property is with their bank or lending company, they can enclose attested copy of sales deed. Attestation can be easily done from notary or bank. Notary or Bank mentions that original copy is with them and photocopy of sale deed is as per original.
5. Obtain NOC from consumer in whose name the electricity bill or meter exist should be obtained by apartment owner or transferee. This letter indicates that builder or previous owner has no objection for name change on electricity bill.
6. Include a copy of your permanent address or any document that proves it. Also provide your PAN card number and telephone number

3. Consumer’s Present Registered Name
4. Address at which supply is connected

Procedure

Write a letter to The Manager, Electricity Board in the area where your electricity connection is registered, stating a request to transfer the name of your electricity meter. Make sure you mention Meter RR number (mentioned on your electricity bill), Name and address of previous owner or builder, your name and address, serial number of your Electricity meter and current electricity meter reading.

Enclose all the required documents and duly filled application with letter. Make sure to pin up all your documents before you submit it. For reference you may take a photocopy of all documents you are going to submit with your application. This will be useful if your EB official fail to respond.

A lineman will come to your home and verify the meter details with entries made in the PSA form. After verifying your application and documents, JE will provide you report.

Get back your entire file with the Report from the JE and go to the EB office in your area. Submit your file along with report received from JE. Make sure you take along the originals of all the documents you have. Then verify your documents and sign it mentioning that you have verified them. He will then direct you to another official who will give you an acknowledgement slip asking you to pay the required transfer fee.

Required Documents

1. ID Proof: Identity proof of applicant. (Passport/ Election ID/ Aadhar Card etc).
2. Address proof of applicant. (Passport/ Election ID/ Pan Card etc).
3. Proof of ownership: Conveyance Deed if property is free hold from DDA. Else, copy of registry of sale deed. Please confirm these for your case from customer care representative.
4. Duly filled form: There is a name change form to be filled by the applicant.
5. Copy of Latest paid electricity bill.
6. Copy of Property Tax paid receipt.
7. No Objection Certificate.
8. Photos: 2 Passport size photographs.
