Recently, The Income tax Department took severe action against the tax defaulters in the Union Territory of Puducherry. The Tax Recovery Officer stated the first sale of an immovable property to Mr. Kishore C Nanwani who was a businessman in Puducherry. It was found out that he was a defaulter after he had failed to pay the income tax. The amount which was to be paid by Mr. Nanwani summed up to Rs. 1.04 crore for the Financial Years 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 which he had failed to pay them. The Department proclaimed that in order to recover the unpaid tax dues it would attach his immovable properties i.e., A residential house at Pattanur village near Jipmer and A textile showroom on Nehru Street. Further, the Department had identified 175 income tax defaulters under its jurisdiction and had stated that prosecution would be hardcore for such defaulters. The Jurisdiction includes the Union Territory of Puducherry and Cuddalore and Villupuram districts in Tamil Nadu. It had also come to a decision to hold on surveys and not only unearth such willful defaulters but also recover the dues which are payable by them. In the meantime, four teams of IT Officials carried on their searches at a few jewellery shops in order to reveal the tax evasion in Puducherry.
