Stay Order On Scrapping Projects For A Golf Course And A Residential Colony Of 17 Towers On A Large Water Body Surrounded By Mangroves On Palm Beach Road In Navi Mumbai. The Order Had Come On Two Pils Filed By Navi Mumbai Environment Preservation Society (NMEPS) And Local Resident Sunil Agarwal. They Had Sought Protection Of Lakes, Wetlands And Mangroves. The Projects Were Being Developed By Mistry Construction Company Pvt Ltd Said That The Stay Is Disappointing. But We Are Hopeful Once The Entire Facts Are Brought Before The SC, They Will See Reason And Vacate The Stay. We Hope No Damage Is Caused In The Interim. Agarwal, Who Had Earlier Successful In Getting A Pro-Wetland Order Said That, “The Earlier High Court Order With Regard To The Preservation Of Wetlands Along The Palm Beach Road Is Detailed And Also Mentions Formation Of The Mangroves Protection Cell To Address Eco Crimes. Hence, We Are Going To Legally Challenge This Stay.” He Also Stated That, Our Priority Is To Stop Any Golf Course Or Other Structure From Coming Up In The Mangroves And Wetlands. Our Counsel Will Present The Relevant Orders And Other Documents In The Apex Court With A View To Saving The Wetlands. Bench Headed By Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi Took Note Of The Appeals Of The City And Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) And Mistry Construction Company Pvt Ltd Against The HC Order And Issued Notices To The Ministry Of Environment And Forest And The Navi Mumbai Environment Preservation Society And Directed The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation And The State Government To Protect And Preserve Mangroves, Wetlands And Lakes In The Satellite City.
