60 year old files of Chandralok Buildings were not found by the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) in the records as the officials found “visible violations” in open space area of B-wing in Nepean Sea Road on Saturday. The B- wing society members challenged the civic body’s no-parking policy and huge fines, after which the Officials checked the building for Construction violations.
The officials measured 28 shops and commercial establishments. The A-Wing mostly consists of commercial establishments on the ground floor, the car garages were converted into commercial establishments and shops; said the BMC official.
The measurements of the shops and commercial establishments will be compared to the original plans on Monday, the BMC also will decide if the FSI (Floor Space Index) violations of the balconies should be checked said Assistant municipal commissioner Vishwas Mote
The societies were requested to provide the original files to the BMC officials. A civic engineer also said that “We will check assessment records of the shops to help us understand when they came into existence,”
People were imposed penalty for parking within 500mts of the public parking space by the BMC from 7th July, for a car the penalty was upto Rs.10,000. The BMC’s power was questioned by the members of the society to issue circular to collect fines. The petition will be heard on Wednesday by the High Court of Bombay.
