In the city of Nashik, municipal commissioner, Radhakrishna Game stated that the civic administration would come down heavily on those taxpayer who defaulted in payment of property and water tax, all this was done with an aim to raise fund for the muncipal corporation for developmental works.
It was stated by principal commissioner government that additional work worth rupees 350 crore in favor of public will also be carried out by Nashik Municipal Corporation(NMC) income through taxes from that town planning, property and water tax department.
A budget worth rupees 1,894.50 crore was presented by municipal commissioner in the month of February for the current fiscal year of 2019-20. The corpus was increased by another rupees 89.50 crore to take the total budget to rupees 1,984 crore by NMC’s standing committee. The authorities for civic administration thereafter made regulations for additional work which increased from rupees 352.38 crore to rupees 233 5.87 crore.
Game stated that he had presented the budget on proper time by considering possible income and the work suggested by the cooperators. The income of NMC is fix through GST and also they don't have any other source of income accept revenue from town planning property in water Taxes.
He further added that NMC's revenue need to increase and for this strict action needs to be taken against the defaulter payment of property and water tax. NMC will be able to carry out the additional work only if they can collect more revenue through taxes.
He said that the civic body’s main focus would be on the defaulters and that he has issued directions to the concerned departments to prepare a list of those who are yet to clear their pending dues. According to Game, NMC would bring around 59,000 new properties under the property and water tax nets.
Game said, “They had already given a boost to various developmental works as per provision in the budget of the civic administration, considering the code of conduct that may come into effect in the next two to three months due to the forthcoming state assembly elections.”
“The tenders for some developmental works will be floated soon. Our major focus is on works related to drinking water, drainage and road works,” added Game.
