The associations of residents of Model Town have written a letter to the Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh, asking him to put a ban on the commercial change of land use (CLU) permissions in the area. The association president Amarjit Singh Tikkar, has stated that a large number of illegal commercial buildings are mushrooming in Model Town at a very fast pace and considering it being a residential colony established in 1950, 60% of the locality has turned into a commercial area by illegal means.
The previous SAD-BJP government illegally declared three roads as commercial roads, and as a result, huge commercial complexes, hospitals, and other such buildings have emerged in the vicinity. Hence, the residents are facing many problems, including huge traffic jams and parking problems. Therefore, a memorandum has been sent to the CM to ban the commercial activity takes place in Model Town, so that the residents can lead a normal life .
