A complaint of encroachment over defence land was registered by Indian Air force which has directly affected registration of properties in 4 Suburban pockets around Sholavaram airstrip. Along with this genuine owner of the property are also facing trouble as they have been considered under the ambit of encroachment.
The development comes after the IAF begin the process of retrieving encroached portion of land belonging to them in month of March.
In April the IAF authority's through a letter communicated the Inspector General of registration directing them to stop registration in the subdivisions of 45 survey numbers Alamathi, Attanthangal, Pammathukulam and Nallur which were under part of air field. After the survey, ban was imposed on all 45 subdivisions including genuine landowners, which urged them to approach IAF.
An IAF official stated that "Their intention was to stop further encroachment and freeze the process of registration of illegally occupied land. While doing this they also imposed ban on such subdivisions which were legal and thus owners of such property had to face the fate."
So far, 55 acres of land under encroachment that housed farmhouses and shops has been retrieved. Verification of revenue documents by defence authorities revealed that an approach road of an educational institution fell within their peripheries.
According to IAF sources, Gojan School of Business and Technology functioning on the vicinity of the airstrip has encroached upon 1.5km of road. However, a representative of the institution denied the allegations saying it was a common approach road used by shops in the neighborhoods. “The three acres land is not an encroachment and is used by people in the neighborhood,” the representative said.
The drive against encroachments at Sholavaram airstrip began in March this year. The ministry of defence is looking at reviving the pre-independence era airstrip as the civil aviation ministry has listed the airstrip under the Regional Connectivity Scheme.
As per information received it has come to knowledge that the registration department is taking efforts to solve the issue. Also they have approached IAF with regard to re-survey the subdivisions. Hence, status quo will continue till re-survey.
