Surat Civic Body Turned Blind Eye To Illegal Constructions In Varachha:

In 2012 when urban development department of GUJARAT government invited applications for regularizing illegal properties, the highest number of applications - 1, 08,247 - received in SURAT Municipal Corporation was from VARACHHA. Out of 80,000 properties one of them is TAKSHASHILA arcade where 22 peoples were died of fire on 24^th may. Many shopping centres and commercial complexes in VARACHHA had witnessed unauthorized construction. Greater negligence held by official did not go for visit after 2015. After collecting rs72 crore as impact fee, SURAT Municipal Corporation (SMC) seemingly looked the other way when illegal in VARACHHA. More than four lakh properties and taking action against illegal ones. Town development department officials said there are at least. Town development department officials said there are at least 50% properties in VARACHHA zone where some or other portion has been illegally. the impact fee regulation has an important provision wherein an applicant has to submit an affidavit stating that he has done nothing illegal and if anything is found out later, it e entirely his responsibility. Neither SMC nor state government has found a single case to challenge the veracity of an applicant’s affidavit.
