The Enforcement Directorate (ED) told Delhi Patiala House Court that corporate lobbyist Deepak Talwar had links with fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya during the hearing of the AgustaWestland case on Thursday. The court has extended Talwar's remand till February 12.
The British government on Tuesday signed off on the extradition order of the fugitive liquor tycoon Vijay Mallya. He is wanted in India on allegations of fraud amounting to an estimated Rs 9,000 crore, according to the UK’s Home Office statement.
Former United Progressive Alliance (UPA) aviation minister Praful Patel's aides arranged accommodation for Talwar in a luxury hotel, as per the email communication accessed by Times Now channel yesterday. The emails of the communication accessed by the channel show that Patel's aides arranged for the accommodation.
ED alleges that Talwar was involved cases involving corporate lobbying. Last week, Talwar was extradited to India in cases involving alleged routing and misuse of Rs 90 crore.
Talwar had sought time to meet Patel and was granted the same for meeting the then aviation minister. The email communication raises serious questions on the alleged meeting between the then UPA minister and the lobbyist.
"Sir, Received a call from Mr Prabhakar, Secy to Mr Anand Jain regarding the meeting with Mr Praful Patel on 29th - wanted to know about the venue and the time of the meeting," says one of the emails addressed to Talwar.
