Stung by a dip in revenue income as indicated in its recent budget, the BMC has decided to pursue 3 lakhs plus entities who owe it over Rs 3,000 Cr, especially in the last couple of months of the current fiscal. A ward-wise break-up shows the maximum number of defaulters is from K-East (Andheri), G-South (Worli) and H-East (Kalina). These include residential as well as commercial establishments.
A civic official said if property tax is not paid to the civic body within 90 days from due date, action is initiated against defaulters. This time, BMC has already initiated stern action to ensure they are able to meet their targets.
The civic body had collected property tax totalling Rs 3,031 crore between April and December 2018 compared to Rs 3,061 crore dueing the corresponding period in 2017.
