ML Ravi, the president of Desiya Makkal Sakthi Katchi has filed a petition against the former Tamilnadu CM Jayalalitha that she has disproportionate assets which were dismissed by a division bench of Justice P Rajamanickman and Justice M Satyanarayana. The complaint was made seeking a direction so that they can make the Tamil Nadu government restrain from building a memorial of her and added that if any money is spent by the government then it should be taken back from her property.
Before the orders could be passed by Supreme Court against Karnataka HC she took her last breathe. It can be said that at this point she has already had the benefits of the acquittal in her favor and in no time the stigma of conviction getting erased. So, the judges said even though there was a stigma of she getting arrested it can’t be said that Jayalalitha was a convicted person.
The main aspect of Supreme Court reversing the acquittal passed by Karnataka HC was not thrown light on which was the main contention in the present case which makes her a convict and stating that a memorial honor of a convict cannot be built rather it can be used by the government to spend on construction of hospitals, educational institutions and for providing basic facilities to citizens.
The bench has dismissed that case stating that "Any challenge during the process of sanction and clearance of funds to the Exchequer was not made by the petitioner; this court is of the considered view that grounds which are urged by petitioner lack merit for the above-stated reasons."
During 2017 the apex court has abated her charges against her in the disproportionate wealth case where her close aide V K Sasikala and 2 others were imprisoned.
