The trial court has charged the 82 years old Congress leader who is a former Himachal Pradesh CM Virbhadra Singh and his wife Pratibha Singh for amassing Disproportionate assets of over Rs10 crores. The party’s moved to High Court challenging the trial court order.
The court has framed charges against Singh, his wife and 7 others for presenting unaccounted money and getting a loss to the authorities. The other 7 accused are Chunni Lal Chauhan, Prem Raj, Anand Chauhan, Joginder Singh Ghalta, Vakamulla Chandrasekhar, Ram Prakash Bhatia and Lawan Kumar Roach.
Virbhadra Singh and Anand Chauhan for showing unaccounted money as sale proceeds of apples have signed an ante-dated MoU to show that it was signed back then by them for which the court ordered to be charged for the offence of forgery.
The case was registered by CBI against Singh and others as they have amassed the assets which were disproportionate to their known source of income when he was Union Minister in UPA government. The money was disproportionate as much as 192% of his income from his post of Union Minister.
With the help of 225 witnesses and 442 documents, the final report was filed against 9 people who were alleged for offences punishable under Prevention of Corruption Act, Section 109 (abetment) and Section 465(punishment for forgery) of IPC.
The Supreme Court saw that no opinion on merits was being expressed but the petition was just simply being transferred so for the interest of justice the Court has transferred the matter from Himachal Pradesh HC to Delhi HC as there was and asked CBI not to arrest Singh and directed him to join the probe.
