Actor-couple Dilip Kumar and his wife Saira Banu have filed a Rs.250 crore defamation suit against the builder Samir N. Bhojwani. The strife refers to Dilip Kumar's Pali hill bungalow, No.16 on a 1600 sq. meters plot of value Rs.250 crore. As that bungalow was damaged, in 2003, he had relocated to his wife’s bungalow placed at the same area No.34, Bandra West. Saira Banu had earlier made a declaration regarding the construction of a museum in grace and glory of Dilip Kumar at theNo.16 site which is still under litigation.
The real owners of the property Seth Mulraj Khatau Trust ( SMKT) assert that Dilip Kumar is the “perpetual lessee” and not a tenant of the Bandra property “for the period of 999 years”. The SMKT through its lawyer Altamesh Shaikh dicloseda Public Notice in the media which said that the rent on the property has already been commuted and the “lease is still valid and subsisting”. The notice has been promulgated on behalf of the legal heirs of late Sunit C.Khatau, beneficiary of SMKTcovenant and the late ChandrakantM. Khatau.
The couple had gone primarily to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for seeking relief to this issue. They filed the defamation suit against the builder as they didn’t receive any response from the above stated people.
