One of the wealthiest politicians DK Shiv kumar, Karnataka Congress Minister has been notified that orders will be soon issued by the Income Tax Department to seize the property under his possession. It is significant to note that Shiv kumar has mentioned in his nomination for Karnataka Assembly election and claimed that he has assets of worth Rupees 840 crores.
It has been mentioned by B.R. Balakrishnan who is serving in the position of Karnataka Director- General of Income tax (Investigation) that-
"The case (investigation) on Shiva kumar is in progress. We will soon be issuing orders to attach his property."
However, no information related to the details of the property, the location and the facts of the case was released. During the investigation carried out in August, 2017 it was revealed that Shiv kumar has been involved in the cases of money laundering, seizure of cash, tax evasion etc. These illegal activities were carried in Bengaluru, Kanakapura and New Delhi.
The role of Tax officials needs to be highlighted as they have played a pivotal role in this case, while Shiv kumar was under the obligation to look after Congress legislators, the tax officials were successful in the search of Shiv kumar’s residence in August 2017. DK Shiv kumar was serving in the post of then Energy Minister. He has played significant role in the Ramnagaram district as he is a lawmaker from the reigion of Kanakapura which has its segement in Ramnagaram. However, on September 15, 2018, bail was granted to Shiv kumar by the Special Court for Economic Offences for evasion of tax case.
