A Delhi Court has issued a bailable warrant against retired Indian Cricketer Gautam Gambhir for non-appearance despite repeated summons in connection with a case of cheating, misappropriation and conspiracy by a real estate group. Gautam Gambhir was the brand ambassador of the real estate group Rudra Buildwell’s Project. He now has to appear before the Court on January 24, 2019. The case is related to allege cheating of flat buyers in the real estate project.
In the complaint, 17 flat buyers alleged that they had paid around 1.98 crore for booking flats in an upcoming project at Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram area in 2011 but the housing project did not take off. This is a typical case of a celebrity brand ambassador facing legal action for the company’s irresponsible or unlawful act. The complainant’s had alleged that, “the project was extensively promoted and advertised promoted and advertised and Gambhir, as the brand ambassador, helped in attracting and inviting buyers to invest in the project.”
One of the finest openers to have played for India, Gambhir recently announced retirement from international cricket drawing curtains on a nearly two-decade long professional career.
In the Court’s hearing today, it was reported that Gambhir had not been present in the Court repeatedly for this case and thus, has been issued a bailable warrant of INR 10,000 by the Delhi Court.
