Lalu Prasad’s family may lose possession of their farm house in Delhi and other properties in Patna as the adjudicating authority under Benami Transaction Act recently attach 17 properties worth Rs. 128 crore.
These properties were purchased by close relatives of Lalu when he was the railway minister in the UPA govt using shell companies. The ownership of these companies and properties were transferred to his family.
Market value of these properties which include a high end under construction mall in Delhi and a farm near Delhi airport. These properties were attached by IT department under Benami Transaction Act.
Four shell companies owned these properties. Initial funds require for purchase of these properties were transferred through these shell companies and there shares were transferred o Lalu’s family member.
If they are convicted under this act an accused can get imprisonment for up to 7 years and will be liable with a fine which is 25% of the market value of the property.
