Centre Can’t Delegate Land Acquisition Power To State Govt For Bullet Train Project

Power of delegation by centre to state govt to acquire land is illegal in Mumbai- Ahmedabad bullet train project, it is affecting farmers.

Farmers have filed a petition in High court and court has approved to hear their case on opposing acquisition for the project.

In an affidavit filed on 12^th October the railway had also stated that it had issued a notification on 8^th October delegating power to state govt to acquire land for the project.

Petitioner has also stated that as it is a multi state project the acquisition should take place under the central act of 2013. The Gujarat version of land acquisition act has also manipulated certain safeguard for land owners’ right.

The govt has to compensate around 6,000 land owners to create a track for bullet train.
