The Enforcement Directorate onWednesday has attached assets of over 218 crore in India and abroad belonging to fugitive diamond businessmen Nirav Modi and his maternal uncle Mehul Choksi. It also includes a Rs 27 crore villa in the UAE and a flat in the Trump Tower in Mumbai worth Rs 1.7 crore belonging to his daughter.
The assets attached by ED also includes a property in Hyderabad worth Rs 120 crore belonging to A.P.Gems & Jewellery Park and “a flat worth 51 crore belonging to Mihir Bhansali,a very close aide of Nirav Modi who was involved in alleged laundering of funds of Nirav Modi which he had received from PNB through letters of undertaking” as said by the official.
Mehul Choksi is also accused with Nirav Modi and his associates in the Rs 13,500 crore PNB scam. Since February 14 the ED has been investigating the scam then it was registered under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Till now the agency has attached assets valued over Rs 4,488 crore.
After case was registered against Nirav Modi by the investigating agencies, Mihir Bhansali transferred the ownership of the US flat to a third party on February 28 for $10 to escape from attachment and mislead the third party.
