Chandigarh Civic Body Serves Tax Notices Of Rs 3.7 Crore.

The tax branch has issued residential property tax notices of around Rsb3.73 crore to 6000 city residents. The civic body has ensured that notices are sent to everyone from sector 1 to sector 19. The process of sending notices to sector 20 is ongoing. It should be noted here that these are all recovery notices. If the defaulters do not pay up their properties will be sealed. The civic hired an agency mainly to identify the houses falling under the tax ambit in the city. The company also submitted a detailed report in this regard. The company is also preparing GIS mapping data is such houses so that record is maintained.

An official said that they have sent property tax notices of Rs3 crore in the first 19 sectors of the city. Now the focus is on recovery notice. There are maximum defaulters in the poshest sectors of the city. Almost fifty percent of people residing in these areas did not pay up taxes during the stipulated rebate period of the first two months of the current financial year. The civic body is operating segment wise and sending notices sector wise . The northern sector would be covered first.
