The Finance Ministry has notified that that 31st March, 2018 or six months from the date of initiation of account based relations with Banks by the customer, whichever is later, as the date of submission of the Aadhaar number, and Permanent Account Number or Form 60 to the banks. Requisite notice regarding the same has been issued to the banks states the Ministry's press release. In the Notification it was expressed that the new due date would be told by the Central government after due discussion. A week ago, Attorney General K.K. Venugopal had told the Supreme Court that the Centre proposed to delay the due date for linking of Aadhaar number with bank account and different schemes and services from 31 December, 2017, to 31 March, 2018. The centre further notified that due date for connecting Aadhaar number with mobile numbers would still be February 6, 2018.
In the meantime the Chief Justice of India has constituted a Five Judge Bench to hear the petitions for interim relief in the Aadhaar matter. A Bench containing Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices AK Sikri, AM Khanwilkar, Dr.DY Chandrachud and Ashok Bhusan will hear the petitions at 11:30 p.m. tomorrow.
