AAP government ambitious project to provide concrete houses to people living in slums and dwellings may take three years to materialize.
While the deadline for conducting slum survey was June, government has only managed to get a consultant for the job. The last survey was completed in 2014 stated that Delhi has 675 slums and JJ clusters.
“The survey will begin from next month. It will give a comprehensive list of eligible families fro housing scheme in Delhi. It will almost cover 750 clusters,” said Shurbir Singh, Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board(DUSIB)
One of the AAP key poll promises was ‘Jahn Jhuggi, Wahan Makaan’ (a legal concrete house for every slum and dwelling)
Around 6 month will be required to seek approvals from different agencies. After that construction will take approximately two years. These will be ground plus 14 storey flats.
While the board has given consent for 6178 EWS (Economic Weaker Section) flats at the cost of Rs 866 crore at four location back in February last year, the file awaits Cabinet’s nod.
The beneficiaries of such houses will be required to pay about Rs1.2lakh for a 25sqm flat. After this they will be charged Rs30000 as maintenance for five years.
The rules for construction and allotment have been made in accordance with Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna
