Farmers of Sikandarpur village have started signing the land agreements for regional flight connectivity scheme, UDAN. Farmers have agreed to lease their land to the authorities to build the airport.
“Twenty lease agreements have been signed so far, in upcoming week we will sign more. The development of infrastructure like electricity and connecting roads will be taken up by UP governmental agencies,” Sunil Kumar, additional district magistrate said.
For development Airport Authority of India (AAI) requires around 22,000 sq metre of land belonging to farmers. Abhishek Garg, a Samajwadi party leader’s family holds 18,000 sq metres of land and was opposed to the lease rent rates approved by the Ghaziabad’s Districts Administration. He later consented to the same.
The UP government and AAI have already finalized land lease rate at Rs 200 per sq metre per year. The AAI will take over land belonging to 26 farmers on lease for development of terminal facilities.
Under this scheme the flights will operate from Hindon airbase, providing relief to overburdened Delhi airport. The ministry of civil aviation has proposed various cities in state including Allahabad, Lucknow, Agra, Bareilly and Hindon from where the regional flights will be operated to 42 different cities.
The ministry has also listed 4 regional flight routes to Hubli, Kannur, Ozar and Pithoragarh from Hindon airbase. Regional flight services will commence in October from Hindon airbase.
