Delhi High Court on Monday issued a notice to North Delhi Municipal Corporation to sought its stand on a plea seeking demolition and sealing of unauthorized constructions in Paharganj, stating the biggest reason for building collapse is the illegal construction.
The bench led by acting chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar asked civic agency for its views on the plea filed by Rajendra Kumar allegedly that many people have lost their live due to building collapses in past two months.
The plea states that number of old building in Paharganj requires demolition or reconstruction to ensure safety of the people living in it and nearby. Illegal constructions are taking place without the knowledge of civic authorities
After Monday’s roof collapse in Dwarka, killing a couple and injuring three kids, was the third major incident of building collapse in Delhi-NCR region in past one week.
On Sunday , an under-construction building collapsed in Ghaziabad killing two people. Six days after the Shahberi’s twin building collapse killing nine people.The plea sought to stop, seal and demolish the unauthorized construction in the areas of Paharganj, thereby protecting the people.The matter will be next heard on October 10.
