Two five-storey buildings located next to each other collapsed in Greater Noida's Shahberi's village late on Tuesday night with dozens of people trapped under the debris. Around 25 people lived in both the buildings.
A newly constructed building and an under construction building adjacent to each other collapsed at around 9:30pm on Tuesday. Both the buildings are reported to be five storeyed.
The 8th Battalion of National Disaster Relief Force was rushed in from Ghaziabad to rescue the people trapped. Rescue operations were underway late into the night.
"We have roped in the NDRF and the police along with health and fire department. Our priority is to rescue people trapped inside. An inquiry will be launched," BN Singh, Greater Noida, district magistrate said.
At least eight people including a 18month old girl and several others were severely injured in the twin-building collapse.Uttar Pradesh chief minister, Yogi Adityanath announced a compensation of ?2 lakh each to the kin of deceased.
An FIR was registered on Wednesday booking land owner, builder, contractors among others as these buildings were illegally constructed.
