Farmers from Ramnagar village did not show up for a meeting organized by district administration on Monday, as a mark of protest against inadequate land compensation.
The meeting was held to seek their consent for the development of Jewar international airport project.
The state government wants to acquire 5,000hectares of land. For first phase they need to acquire 1441hectares from 2377 landowners from eight different villages including Ramnagar, Rohi, Parohi, Dayantpur among others.
In order to move ahead with this project government need the consent of atleast 70% of farmers under Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act 2013.
The farmers wanted to protest against forceful land acquisition at 'cheap rates' (Rs 1800 per sq metre).
"We demand a land rate four times that of prevailing circle rate, jobs for our children and Abadi land equal to the present size of houses that we live in. Government is only giving us flat build on 60sq metres of land," said Mahesh Chand Sharma, former head of village Ramnagar.
The administration has scheduled a meeting in Banwaribas on Tuesday.
