Almost 19,000 illegal factories in non-conformance or residential areas will face sealing starting 24th July. Civic bodies has been asked to shut down these illegal units by High Court in its recent orders.
The north, south and east Delhi municipal corporations would survey almost 51,500 illegal units based if the list provided by Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIICD) Limited.
Out of the total, 9,000 comes under the jurisdiction of South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), about 10,000-15,000 units under North Delhi Municipal Corporation.Majority of these illegal factories are being operated from residential areas.
The sealing drive will start from Tughlakabad extension in south Delhi and will then move to the areas of Khayala, Rajouri Garden, Shubhash Nagar, Najafgarh and Kapashera.
"The SDMC initially planned to conduct the drive at Tuglakhabad on Friday but due to unavailability of police force, it was postponed," said official.
NDMC will also launch a similar drive in areas of Rohini.Power discoms have been told to disconnect power supply to 1,660 such industries.The violators largely includes dyeing and forging units among others.
