It’s not only the Greater Noida’s Shahberi village, the recent site of twin illegal building collapse taking the life of 8 people, where illegal construction is rampant.Illegal buildings are aplenty in Noida too. Around 50 villages of Noida have become the hub of unauthorized hub of residential and commercial towers in last few decades.
“Majority of officials from land department and police have been supporting this illegal construction in order to make quick bucks. As a result hundreds of unauthorized and unsafe structures have come up prone to mishaps,” said Atul Gupta, president, Noida Architects Association.
There are almost 82 villages in Noida and around 50 have illegal structures standing tall. Buyers gets easily lured to these buildings as they are less expensive than other buildings by bigger realty firms.
To contain illegal constructions at bay in the villages, the Uttar Pradesh government issued an order on October 20, 2014 directing authorities to approve maps of village land.
“We have decided to identify all such building and seal them . The authority will not spare any building that has flouted the norms,” said Alok Tandon, CEO of Noida Authority.
Illegal constructs are rampant in villages including Garhi Chokhandi, Atta, Sadarpur, Sarffabad, Gijhod among many others.
