Woman Attacked and Paraded in Delhi's Palam Over Property Dispute

A woman living in a rented apartment in Palam area was beaten up, stripped and paraded naked in broad daylight on 28^th June. The daughter-in-law of the woman’s landlady, Kamleshwari had suspected the woman of wanting to usurp their property. She doubted her mother in-law’s intention of keeping the woman as a tenant. She also had suspicions regarding her husband’s involvements in the woman’s plans. As a result, in order to foil all attempts of the women to take over her property, she attacked her with a group of four to five other women who were relatives of the landlady, thrashed her, tore her clothes off and paraded her naked in the Palam area of South West Delhi. All the passers-by were mute spectators to the entire incident despite her shrieks and cries for help. Some of them were, in fact, busy recording videos of the incident. The victim alleged the refusal of the police to lend an ear to her complaint. The old landlady was also threatened by the police as per the victim’s statement. Thereafter, the victim underwent a medical examination after which her complaint was registered. Kamleshwari has been booked under Section 354, 323 and 34 of the IPC. This incident again brought a chill down the spine of all women in not just Delhi but across the entire nation.
