Supreme Court on Wednesday sought response from all the state governments on builders in violation of fire safety norms. The response was sought on PIL alleging builders on violating fire safety norms specified in the National Building Code, 2016 and thereby endangering the lives of people.
United Human Rights Federation, an NGO has approached the apex court, saying most of real estate developers have found to be violating fire safety norms and even after that they are getting safety clearances. “Almost 25,000 are killed or injured from fire accidents in building be it residential or commercial, ” reported the plea.
The SC has orderd that before granting clearance states should ensure that safety measures in buildings are in accordance with the safety norms incorporated in the National Building Code of India.The SC bench of CJI Dipak Misra , Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice DY Chandrachud has issued notices to all the states and have sought their responses in four weeks.
