Municipal Corporation demolishes illegal construction on leased property

The Municipal Corporation in Amritsar demolished a wall that was constructed on its leased property behind Gurdwara Shaheedan Sahib. The wall in question was constructed by the leaseholder who was attempting to encroach the property. The 1200 square yard property was leased to the person several years ago but when the lease term was over, he continued to use and attempted to take possession. MC Commissioner Sonali Giri also revealed that he had attempted to sell the property to a religious body and urged potential buyers to verify all land records before purchasing any property in the area. Meanwhile, the leaseholder has filed a case in the Court and the matter is sub-judice. As of now, the property in question has been sealed off with barbed wire and a notice of ownership has been put up by the estate wing of the Municipal Corporation.

The MC has been urging the residents to verify with the Corporation before purchasing any land as the estate wing has identified many cases where the leaseholders have attempted to sell the land without any right to do so.
