A man allegedly shot dead his father and younger brother in a fit of anger over unequal distribution of land in Saharsa district of on Sunday. His sister-in-law and nephew were also injured in the incident.
The incident occurred at Situaha Dih village under Salkhua police station when the man identified as Mantu Yadav alias Vinod Yadav shot dead his father Hardeo Yadav (80) and his younger brother Ashok Yadav (45), Salkhua police station SHO Tarun Kumar said. Ashok Yadav was sleeping on the terrace with his wife Kanchan Devi and their son Bittu Kumar when he was shot dead by his brother Mantu Yadav, the SHO said. Both the father-son duo died on the spot. Vinod also shot at and critically injured Ashok's wife Chandan Devi (40) when she along with her son Bittu Yadav intervened and in order to save her husband and father-in-law. The incident took place at around 3am when the whole family went to terrace to sleep after a power cut, the SHO said. Chandan Devi and her son Bittu Kumar, who sustained bullet injuries in neck and chest respectively, were admitted to sadar hospital.
Altogether five empty 9mm cartridges were recovered from the terrace, SHO said. The division of land amid the two brothers by Hardev was the main reason behind the killing. In initial investigation, it surfaced that Vinod had quarrel with Hardev and Ashok couple of days back. Vinod had received land share from his in-laws after death of his wife almost four years back. Perhaps due to it Hardev gave more share of land to Ashok which was opposed by Vinod, Kumar said. An FIR was lodged on basis of the statement given by Chandan and Vinod was made a named accused.
