In a big to tighten the noose around the bootleggers the Gujarat Director General of Police Shivanand Jha issues an order directing the police to recommend cases of big seizure of liquor to Enforcement Directorate(ED) in order to initiate attachment of properties of suspected bootleggers under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.
As part of the ongoing drive against bootleggers, city police and municipal authorities demolished illegal property belonging to another bootlegger. In a directive to district superintendents of police and other senior officials, Jha said all relevant evidence should be collected to build a strong case against hardened bootleggers, so that the ED can invoke the PMLA against them and attach their properties .AMC demolished two properties of bootleggers in Kubernagar under heavy police protection. Joint Commissioner of Police Ashok Yadav said bootlegging dens at Kubernagar were found serving liquor to customers during a mega drive. This is the first incident across the country in which cops along with municipal authorities are taking steps together to demolish illegal properties belonging to bootleggers.
In an unprecedented move, police along with municipal authorities demolished the property belonging to a woman bootlegger, Sunita Batange of Chharanagar. Police said the property was found to be illegal and it was also established that the property was built from the proceeds of her illegal liquor business. It was stated by the police that they had a list of 50 such bootleggers including Anil Bhuriyo of Kubernagar and Raju Gendiand they are conducting a survey with help from municipal authorities and will soon demolish their properties as well.
In a statement by a senior police officer said they have intelligence about some bootleggers using luxury buses coming from Rajasthan to traffick liquor. About a 100 such buses enter the in the early hours every day and accordingly they have planned an operation to check such buses to catch bootleggers and their traffickers.
