In the agitation by Dalit protesters during Bharat bandh on 3rd April, 2018, a series of FIR were lodged against over 6,000 protesters in Agra.
The protest was called after the Supreme Court’s judgment in Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Atrocities Act) came and was considered dilution of the act by them.
The FIRs were lodged by two Section Engineers and cops. Rajkumar Maurya, Section Engineer at Agra Cantt GRP reported that over 2,000 men and women removed track key (pandrol keys) from 1.2 km long track near Raja ki Mandi railway station compromising the integrity of railway tracks.
The second FIR was lodged by Mohit Sharma, Section Engineer at Agra Fort GRP in which 2,000 agitators tried to sabotage the railway track to stop the train operations near Rui Ki Mandi and damaged property worth Rs. 5 Lakh.Another FIR was lodged by RPF SO BK Sharma where 2,000 unidentified men and women were accused for preventing railway operations and deliberately destroying railway property.
Due to this agitation, more than 60 trains got delayed for more than 12 hours. Over 6,000 people are booked under Section 17 and 151 of Indian Penal Code, 1860 and under Section 174(A) of Railways Act.
Even in Agra City, 14 FIRs were lodged in five police station and 20 men were held attempting to murder policemen by setting the Bundu Katra Police Outpost on fire in which six policemen were injured.
