Online Payment of Property tax through OTP : Chandigarh Municipal Corporation

Chandigarh Municipal Corporation is planning to initiate online payment of property tax with the help of OTP (One Time Password) technique. Generating OTP is very prevalent and requires the mobile number or email address where the one time password is sent for confirming the authorized person. The tax branch at Chandigarh has mobile numbers of 80% of the tax payers. So the plan is that tax filling will be connected with mobile phone so that only te owner can get access to property tax filling details. Once online tax filling system is launched with full force, it would be compulsory to first provide the mobile number, after which an OTP will be generated and then details of property tax will be opened. If the applicant wants to check, he/she has to undergo the same process again.

The Municipal also showed its concern upon the security of the data extracted and therefore they did not launch the system in the first week of April and asked a private company for the most secure OTP security feature. Additional Municipal Commissioner Anil Kumar garg added to instill the faith of tax payers in the online payment exercise. Sources reveal that the private agency has already fed the data of all the residential and commercial properties separately. Now it becomes curious to see the functioning of this awaited online tax payment system.
