The Bareilly Municipal Corporation sealed seven nursing homes and banquet halls situated in Rabritola and Sanjay Nagar for not clearing dues despite repeated reminders and has served notices to as many as 83 property tax defaulters running marriage halls across the city. The tax department sealed six shops in Rabritola where the defaulters owed Rs 8.87 lakh to the department. In Sanjay Nagar, a banquet hall owner had tax dues of Rs 2.39 lakh.
In Kankartola area under Old city, a tax defaulter having an outstanding amount of Rs 8.09 lakh made partial payment of Rs 2.50 lakh on the spot while in Sanjay Nagar two property tax defaulters having an outstanding tax of Rs 1.87 lakh and 12.93 lakh respectively made partial payments of Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2 lakh respectively. The defaulters have been granted time till March 31 to clear their pending dues. In Hajiyapur area, a hospital owner having dues of Rs 10.47 lakh paid Rs 6 lakh while a banquet hall owner in Sanjay Nagar paid the entire outstanding tax of Rs2.38 lakh,
Moreover, the 83 other tax defaulters who are operating marriage halls in different parts of the city have been issued demand notices to clear their outstanding tax by March 26. According to Bareilly Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials, the sealing drive will continue until they fully recover property tax from city residents.
